I read this poem during our Public Speaking class with our teacher Mdm. Hermosa.. She shared to us this poem and I wanted to share this poem to you.. I don't know the poet though. Either I was not listening when madam mentioned the author or the author was not mentioned at all. But it seems more likely the first option.. heheh.. My batchmates know me and they can tell you that I seldom listen to class discussions.(not for english!! I always listen to Sir Elmer. Sip2x!! hahah).. I found this poem funny yet somehow carries a sense of truth in it.. Such irony!! I can't take it!! heheh.. You better read it for yourself..

English is a Stupid Language
Let's face it
English is a stupid language.
There's no egg in the eggplant,
No ham in the hamburger,
And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple.
English muffins were not invented in England
French fries were not invented in France.
We sometimes take English for granted
But if we examine it's paradoxes,
We find that quicksand takes you down slowly,
Boxing rings are square
And a Guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.
If writer's write, how come fingers don't fing?
If the plural of tooth is teeth
Shouldn't the plural of phone booth be phone beeth?
If the teacher taught,
why didn't the preacher praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables,
what the heck does humanitarian eat?
Why do people recite a play yet play at a recital?
Park on driveways and drive on parkways?
How can the weather be as hot as hell
on one day and as cold as hell on another?
English was invented by the people, not computers.
And it reflects the creativity of human race.
(which of course isn't a race at all)
-That is why-
When the stars are out, they are visible.
And why is it that when
I wind up my watch it starts
But when I wind up this poem it ends..
...!$*bOw*$!..
See??!! I can't argue the poet. Not because I don't know him(heheh) but because there is truth in what the poem says.. It is true that there is no egg in the eggplant yet English language still call it an eggplant..Tsk3x.. Poor logic!!(hahah.. like what Sir Elmer often says). There are certain words that contradicts the English language technicalities..
Just like us..
We humans sometimes go beyond the boundary of manhood.. We are mere humans.. An animal in the kingdom animalia phylum chordata with two arms, two legs, a torso and a head. We fly yet we don't have wings.. We swim for hours yet we don't have gills.. We do things contrary to what we were supposed to do.. I am supposed to post a blog entry yet I'm playing counter-strike.. See??!! We humans share one similarity with English language......

hOw dOeS iT FeEL FitTinG yOuR tEaCheR's shOeS??
In education, teachers are those who help students or pupils learn, often in a school. The objective is typically a course of study, lesson plan, or a practical skill, including learning and thinking skills.
But what if your teacher turns a little younger, a little immature?? What if your teacher don't have the usual lesson plans?? what if your teacher actually wear the same uniform your wearing?? What if your teacher happens to be your classmate?? hmmm.. Quite impossible huh??
Know Your School Day(KYSD) is an event in the University of the Philippines High School in Cebu where students get a chance to act as teachers.. Weird??!! Ibahin nyong U.P.!! Astig school namin!!heheh The whole event is a time for students to tap their teacher's back for a job well done.. It's also a time for students to thank their teachers for not only being a mentor but also for being a parent.. U.P. Faculty rocks!! I'm not doing this because I know my grades are a bit shaky this year(well, 50% true.. heheh I am at your mercy Sir Basadre!! huhuh) but I just want to thank you guys for molding me into a better person!!.. Kachar oi!! heheh.. Anyways, this blog entry is about my classmates being teachers.. So let me start with the opening of KYSD..
KYSD was opened last January 25, 2007.. Unfortunately, being my usual lazy me, I almost got late and I had to run from the gate to the volleyball court just to be in time for the opening(I already have four tardy marks and if I will add one I'd be suspended.. huhuh).
How does it fell being taught by student teachers??
1.) Basically, I feel COMFORTABLE looking at my classmates in the front doing the lectures. It's not like the usual discussions where the teachers have to do the teaching. Having to focus on listening to every word the teacher says and scribbling your pen fast enough to catch-up with the talking teacher sometimes intimidates me.. It's not like I'm not used to listening to my teacher's lectures but its just that I feel more at ease listening to my classmates. Maybe because I can't feel the teacher aura or maybe because my classmate is not a figure of higher authority.. I just can't figure it out!! hahah
2.) I feel INSECURED.. Why?? Because I envy those people who have enough guts and courage to apply as student teachers.. I don't feel responsible enough to be one.. I feel I don't have what it takes to be a student teacher.. hahah.. Lack of self-confidence?? Not really,. I just know I'm not that responsible to take on a higher responsiblity.. I even have problems surviving my student life and here I go asking for more.. heheh..
3.) I feel a bit CONFIDENT to participate in classes.. I don't have to worry about committing mistakes.. When I'm having a difficult teacher-student lecture, I need to put-up a "look!! I understand the lecture and my answer is correct!!" image to them.. Not because I want to impress them or so, but because I don't want them to feel that I didn't understand the lecture because of their way of teaching.. Actually, U.P. Faculty uses effective teaching techniques.. They try their best to input as much information needed.. It's not their fault I'm just too dumb.. heheh.. In the case of participating in class handled by student teachers, I don't have to worry about mistakes.. I feel a bit carefree.. heheh.. Quite confusing?? Even me myself is confused with number 3.. I'm sorry I write poor english.. heheh
That's just basically what my reaction to the KYSD.. It's a good thing I reached 500 words.. Thanks for reading by the way..
